PED is a program at our rehab Free Hearts. It seeks to give data about brain hardware and software.

Why would a recovering person know about the workings of drugs in the brain. We admit, there some people who have recovered without studying PED. However, a recovering person always becomes a consultant in the community.
Individuals and families may seek help from them because they are available and their services are free.

Now, imagine an alcoholic who doesn't know the effects of alcohol on the brain. How can such a person intervene fairly with information that will help the other person.

Simple things like effects of ethanol can make one begin to reflect on change of behavior.

Let us consider THC, advocates for use of THC are very vocal, when someone has no knowledge on the effects of THC, he/she cannot counter-react to their or its legalization.

In Uganda, the use of nicotine was so advertised that litigation became necessary. What helped is the availability of knowledge that and that led to BAT shifting to Kenya where the knowledge about it was still limited.

Consider a substance of solvents like shoe polish, thinner, deodorants, nail remover, all these are legal substances in Uganda but the youth are using them to seek the 'high'.
When such knowledge is not given, these substances cause brain damage.

There are very many new drugs on market that are industrially made. Knowing about them will empower stake holders to litigate them better. Therefore, PED is very crucial in the control of use of substances.

Without PED, a common saying, "you cannot abuse substances, they abuse you" this becomes very true indeed.

PED also handles the workings of human nature, how our brains acquire attitudes of addiction behavior.
Someone may say addiction is a behavior that develops to become a disease.
And someone diseased must be empowered with information not to become "re diseased"

Conclusion:
Due to the above reasons, Free Hearts insists to have PED in its programs. From Monday to Monday, this program is conducted in different ways and approaches
